Welcome to the New Veterans Centre!
Hello again! We’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our new veterans centre located in the IES Centre, Hornedale road, Newton Aycliffe. While we’ve only secured the ground floor, we have some exciting activities lined up. Our aim is to build a strong, supportive community, and we need your help to make it happen.
Activities and Workshops
Despite space limitations, we’ve established several engaging activities. We have a drop-in café where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and good conversation. There are two wood workshops: one for advanced projects and one for general interest. Although equipment is basic and in short supply, we are optimistic about the creativity and skills of our volunteers.
Vintage Veterans Project
One of our standout projects is the Vintage Veterans Project. We have a Fergusson tractor that needs stripping down and rebuilding. Additionally, with the help of Rusty Trucks, we will completely rebuild a 1932 Albion lorry. Sounds exciting, right? Volunteers are definitely required for these hands-on projects!
Virtual Reality Suite
We are also working on creating a VR suite, led by Alan. With his extensive experience working with dementia sufferers and those with Parkinson’s disease, Alan will use VR to help with memory and mobility issues.
Join Us on July 24th
We would love for you to visit our new centre on Wednesday, July 24th, from 10:00 to 15:30. Come have a look around, chat with us, and discuss other activities you might be interested in. We are hopeful that our new website will be up and running soon. Please share this post with your friends and contacts. Your support is crucial in helping us deliver support to veterans and their families, combat loneliness, and foster a sense of community. Our small team of dedicated volunteers looks forward to seeing you soon!
